Sundowner Mehendi

No Indian wedding is quite complete without mehendi which is an inalienable part of the Indian bride’s wedding look.

One of the oldest Indian wedding traditions, the application of mehendi falls under the solah sringar. Mehendi is also said to represent the holy bond of matrimony and is rightly considered a shagun which is a sign of good luck. Unless, of course, if someone paints a mehendi moustache on you while you’re asleep. Good luck getting that off in time for the wedding.

Besides lending colour to the hands, mehendi is also made of a medicinal herb. Weddings are pretty stressful, aren’t they? Application of mehendi can actually prevent stress because it cools the body and keeps the nerves from becoming tense. Don’t be surprised if you catch the wedding planner chilling in a tub of mehendi somewhere.

The mehendi ceremony itself is a fun-filled occasion where the bride and her entourage along with all the ladies get their hands and feet decked out with stellar patterns and designs amidst laughter, song and dance.
